This beauty retailer needs no further introduction. I dare say most of us grew up dipping our toes into The Body Shop’s plethora of beauty products with a conscience, before venturing into the wondrous world of skincare and makeup. The revolutionary founder and trendsetter Dame Anita Roddick has been pioneering social change since the beauty retailer opened its doors in Brighton, England in 1976. Her focus on ethically sourced, nature-based ingredients proved a hit with women who were made to feel good in their skin. Although The Body Shop has lost much of its original spark since it changed ownership in 2006, consumers still love the brand’s philosophy towards animal cruelty-free products with natural and ethically-sourced ingredients. Coupled with the dogged hard work of the current management, The Body Shop managed to clinch the fifth spot on Yahoo’s top-searched beauty brands.

As the Hallyu wave continues to be on the rise, one of the standouts in the increasingly saturated K-beauty industry is Innisfree, touted as the “first natural brand in Korea”. Formulated from the pristine environs of Jeju Island, the “clear fresh air, soft warm sunlight, fertile healthy soil, and pollution-free pure water” are evident in the affordable yet high-efficacy products which include skin and body care. Best known for their bestselling Innisfree Green Tea Hyaluronic Acid Cream, the newly launched Vitamin C range is said to help achieve that coveted Korean glass skin. Fronted by South Korean singer and Ive member Jan Won-young, the new range quickly grabbed the attention of beauty aficionados. At the same time, the brand also underwent a rebranding exercise in which not just their logo changed, but their product packaging was replaced with sustainable porcelain materials instead of plastics. Innisfree is certified under Sephora's Clean Beauty range.

Thanks to Kiehl’s apothecary beginnings in the 1800s, you know you are in good hands with this New York-based scientifically proven skincare line. The brand’s No. 1 bestseller – Kiehl’s Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner has consistently remained on its bestselling list for decades. The Calendula range has continued to win the hearts of its customers since its debut in the 1960s. This year, the brand continues to remain on the forefront of consumers' minds with physical pop-ups where the public can try out their wide range of products, get a skin analysis, and bring home samples specifically catered to one’s skin type. The brand’s sustainability efforts include commissioning local artists in art installations on top of their recycling run. However, what makes the brand a true winner is its gender-inclusive packaging and ethos.

With the idea to enhance the beauty-buying experience, Sephora founder Dominique Mandonnaud first started as a fragrance shop with an open concept for customers to try before purchase. This same winning formula, topped with a dizzying array of cult-status beauty products sourced worldwide and personalised customer service, are what makes the makeup playground Sephora, now part of the LVMH group – so successful today. In the third quarter of 2022, Sephora introduced the Store of the Future where there are no cash registers and a cashless paying system awaits. Sephora’s consistent focus on responsible consumption, Clean Beauty, Click and Collect, the bestselling lists and GWP ensures they stay on top of our readers' minds, garnering the second top spot.

It is not just their luxury bags such as the Dior Book Tote and Lady Dior that are garnering interest in Yahoo readers. Since the French multinational luxury fashion house first launched its makeup line in 1953, Dior’s range of foundations, powders, lipsticks, and other products have steadily gained a stronghold in the hearts of many. This year, Dior’s Diorshow 5 Couleurs eyeshadow palette and its Dior Forever Makeup collection have been their winning formula. Its cult status is further cemented by International K-star Cha Eun-woo’s visit to Singapore in June this year for the launch of Dior's La Collection Privée Dioriviera Fragrance.
