Missing Chinese model Yang Zeqi returns home after month-long ordeal

22 Jan - Chinese model Yang Zeqi has safely returned to mainland China after being rescued from Myanmar's Myawaddy Industrial Park, where he was held for nearly a month.

Yang announced his return through social media early morning on 17 January, expressing gratitude to those who helped secure his freedom.

"I am reporting my safety to everyone as soon as I landed. Thank you to all my compatriots who cared about me, and thank you to my relatives and friends. I couldn't come back without any of you. I love you," Yang posted.

Observant netizens noticed a blackened nail on Yang's right thumb in photos accompanying his post, raising concerns about possible abuse during his captivity.

Yang had been missing since 20 December, when he travelled to Thailand for what he believed was a legitimate filming project, recruited through the same alleged talent scout group that had earlier lured actor Wang Xing.

Taking cues from Wang Xing's successful rescue earlier this month, Yang's father sought help from the Thai embassy and launched a social media campaign. The Thai law firm handling Yang's case confirmed that it had been filed with the Anti-Human Trafficking Division of the Central Bureau of Investigation of Thailand, leading to his rescue on 16 January.

Thai authorities have now successfully rescued three Chinese nationals from the Myawaddy Industrial Park: actor Wang Xing, Yang Zeqi, and a woman named Wu Jiaqi. However, the fate of 49 other Chinese victims, whom Wang Xing had reported were detained in the same facility, remains unknown.

Wang had earlier returned to China on 11 January, after being forced to train as a scammer during his detention.
