Chinese actor He Junmin feared trapped in similar scam following Wang Xing's rescue
9 Jan - Concerns are mounting over the safety of Chinese actor He Junmin, who may be the latest victim of a human trafficking operation similar to the one that recently entrapped actor Wang Xing at the Thai-Myanmar border.
Wang was rescued on January 7 after being forced into a scammer training facility where he was held alongside dozens of other victims from various countries.
Chinese actress Shao Yifan has raised alarm about He Junmin's situation, revealing that he travelled to Bangkok for a supposed film project on 3 January. While He maintained some communication after an initial period of lost contact, his behaviour had raised much concern among his family and friends.
According to Shao, He's responses have been unusually strange, and he has consistently refused video calls, only accepting regular voice calls to claim he is filming a drama series in Thailand. Adding to the suspicion, He shared a photo purportedly from the filming location showing people wearing down jackets. This further cast doubt as Thailand is a tropical country. She added that the photo in question was also found to have been posted by a different person back in December.
Further investigation has revealed that the same recruiter involved in Wang Xing's case was responsible for offering He the filming opportunity. He has been unable to provide any details about the project's director or the drama itself, and claimed to have no knowledge of Wang Xing's widely publicised case.
Further investigations revealed that the person who posted the information about recruiting actors for the drama that He is supposedly filming is the same one involved in Wang Xing's case.
He's relatives and friends have now sought assistance from the Thai Embassy in China.
