Chinese actor missing after receiving offer to film in Thailand

8 Jan - A Chinese actor has been reported missing near the Thailand-Myanmar border after he arrived in the country to film a movie.

The situation regarding the actor, named Wang Xing, was first revealed by his girlfriend, Jia Jia, who posted a message late at night on 5 January to seek help.

Jia Jia stated that Wang Xing, who has worked in dramas like "Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Red-Moon Pact" and "The Tale of Rose" as a second-tier actor, received a message from a certain actors group on 24 December last year, saying that a production needed an actor. After giving his contact information, he was told that he had passed the audition and would have to fly to Thailand for the shoot on 3 January.

Jia Jia said that Wang Xing was hesitant about going to Thailand, but the other party told him that it was too late for them to find another actor. The actor reportedly made the decision to go in the end in hopes that it will help him expand his talent overseas.

Wang Xing kept in touch with his girlfriend all the way and even turned on the real-time tracking device as he arrived in Thailand, telling her that he was driven by a local who speaks neither English nor Chinese after being told by the person who cast him that he has to go directly to the launching ceremony. However, the car drove further and further and the communication was cut off as he arrived at the Thai-Myanmar border.

Jia Jia and his family were unable to contact him since then.

In a statement released on 6 January, the Chinese Embassy in Thailand said it was working closely with Thai authorities and Wang's family to locate him. In addition, the Chinese Consulate-General in Chiang Mai is also involved in the efforts.

Many actors including big names like Gong Jun and Zhao Yibo, had since reposted Jia Jia's Weibo story in hopes to help find the actor.
