Chinese actor found after missing at Thai-Myanmar border

8 Jan - Missing actor Wang Xing has been found following reports of him missing while travelling to Thailand for work.

The news was confirmed by the Chinese embassy in Bangkok via its website, saying that the actor was successfully rescued at 7pm local time on 7 January.

"The Chinese embassy and consulates in Thailand express gratitude to the Thai government and other relevant parties for their effort and effective work in this regard," the embassy added.

Meanwhile, China Global Television Network (CGTN) reported that the actor, who was found with his head shaved, has expressed his gratitude to every party involved in his rescue, saying, "I am very grateful that I can stand here safely and have the opportunity to return to my country. Thailand is very safe, and I will definitely come back again."

Thai media reported that Wang Xing was deceived into coming to Thailand for an acting project, but upon arrival, was taken to the Mae Sot district in northwest Thailand, which borders the Myanmar city of Myawaddy, allegedly known as a centre for scam compounds.

Thai police confirmed that Wang Xing will be investigated as a victim of human trafficking.

It was earlier this week that his girlfriend Jia Jia took to social media to ask for help, saying that she and Wang Xing's family had lost contact with the actor while they were in communication with him as he arrived in Thailand for what he was told to be an acting job.
