Chow Yun Fat to play Chinatown boss in Lunar New Year release "Detective Chinatown 1900"

9 Jan - Fans of Chow Yun Fat who have been missing him on the big screen will be thrilled to know that he will be seen next in the new "Detective Chinatown" movie.

In a trailer of the movie, "Detective Chinatown 1900" released on 7 January, the veteran Hong Kong legend can be seen playing a domineering head of the Chinatown Association in the United States, where the story takes place this time around.

However, it is noted that Chow is playing a very small role in the movie led by Wang Baoqiang and Liu Haoran.

The film, which is the fourth instalment of the "Detective Chinatown" franchise, is set for release on the first day of the Lunar New Year.

It also serves as a prequel to the story, revolving the murder of a white woman in Chinatown in San Francisco in 1900, causing social upheaval.

Directed by the original helmer Chen Sicheng as well as Dai Mo, the film will also feature a star-studded cast that include Li Chengru, Xiao Shenyang, Bai Ke, Yue Yunpeng and Hollywood actor John Cusack.

Chow's last film was the 2023's "One More Chance".
