Zhao Wei revealed 2021 divorce amid ongoing professional controversy

24 Jan - After previously announcing that she and Huang Youlong have been divorced for a while now, a latest document has now confirmed that Zhao Wei and her husband have ended their marriage even before she was banned.

As reported on Phoenix, the actress was revealed to have submitted documents to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on 21 January to show that she and Huang have called it quits on their marriage on 23 July 2021.

In the documents, Zhao said that from that day on, she would no longer be considered to be holding a spousal interest in the 3.5 billion shares of "Sino Golf Holdings Ltd (HKEx: 0361)", and the original 67.5% of the shares would be "cleared".

Zhao Wei's filing of the documents was seen by the outside world as an attempt to completely distance herself from her ex-husband and refuse to be further implicated in Huang Youlong's debt problem, seeing that the company did not mention this major event in its financial report.

According to the analysis of relevant experts, the change of the marital status of a major shareholder is a major event, which may affect the company's equity structure and decision-making direction, and thus affect investors' judgment.

It is noted that Zhao and her works were banned from social media in China in August the same year, though no actual reasons were revealed regarding the cause of her ban.

Many speculated that the ban happened due to Zhao's friendship with Alibaba's Jack Ma, who faced trouble after criticising the government.

Zhao confirmed her divorce back in late December 2024 amid reports that a company has filed a lawsuit against Huang claiming that he has overdue debts. The post seemed to be addressing news reports about the case addressing Huang as "Zhao Wei's husband".

Many speculate Zhao Wei's ban was closely related to business tycoon Jack Ma
