Yang Zi wins case against apparel brand

11 May – Yang Zi has recently won a case against Shanghai Youshi Apparel, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Xinjiang LaChapelle Fashion Co Ltd.

As reported on NetEase, relevant documents revealed that the actress had signed a contract to endorse La Chapelle's Puella brand from November 2016 to November 2018. However, at the beginning of 2021, the defendant's flagship store still promoted Yang Zi as the spokesperson, despite the expiry of the contract three years prior.

The court has ruled it to be an infringement of the actress' portrait right and ordered the company to immediately remove all infringing images, release an apology to the actress, and compensate her for economic losses amounting to RMB 250,000.

This is not the first time that Yang Zi has used the law to protect her rights. In 2020, she won an infringement case, with the defendant being ordered to pay a fine of RMB 100,000 for publishing remarks that was considered damaging to her reputation.

She also sued another person for slander in 2021, while another infringement case against a medical beauty company commenced in April this year.
