Michelle Yeoh fronts Lululemon's Lunar New Year capsule in film featuring slick Wing Chun moves
Lululemon welcomes the Year of the Dragon with Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh as the ambassador inspiring one and all to seek mind-body balance.
To say that I am nursing a girl crush on Michelle Yeoh is an understatement. Gender-busting, age-defying, nationality-crushing, there’s no stopping 61-year-old Oscar-winning Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh from going against the tides of societal expectations and coming out strong. From Miss Malaysia 1983 to top Hong Kong actress, Lifetime Achievement Award (2013) achiever, then Hollywood Oscar-winning actress, Time Magazine’s 2022 Icon of the Year, and now Lululemon ambassador, there’s no limits to what the feisty woman can achieve.
Most of us probably grew up knowing Michelle Yeoh as a kungfu veteran thanks to her slick moves in Tomorrow Never Dies, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and of course, the role that won her an Oscar for Best Actress in Everything Everywhere All At Once. Fun fact: Did you know that Michelle did not receive any formal martial arts training before delivering those slick Kungfu moves on set? What?! It was a matter of learning on the job and vigorous training in the gym that allowed her to fulfill her roles as an action heroine on screen. Talk about on-the-job training and supreme dedication to her craft!
What’s more, this sassy, history-making woman singlehandedly defied society's construct of what a woman should be and should do and paved her way by collecting accolades, awards, and achievements along the way. She proved that a woman does not need to be defined or placed in any fixed mould be it as a mother (she is married with no kids), nor are we able to achieve success only when we are young and pretty (she won an Oscar for Best Actress in Everything Everywhere All At Once at the age of 60, and is the first Asian actress to do so).
Many would remember that momentous moment when she accepted the Oscars, inspiring girls (and boys) and women, particularly Asians.
For all the little boys and girls who look like me watching tonight, this is a beacon of hope and possibility… And ladies, don't let anyone ever tell you you are past your prime.Michelle Yeoh's acceptance speech when she won the Oscars for Best Actress in Everything Everywhere All At Once
Indeed! It is not surprising activewear label Lululemon sought the inspiring icon for its newest capsule. Helming the role of Lululemon’s ambassador for its Lunar New Year capsule this year, Michelle aims to inspire people, especially the younger generation, to be more active and achieve a mind, body, and spirit balance.
I’m delighted to be partnering with lululemon. Sports have always been an important element of my life, and I am committed to encouraging more people, especially younger generations, to benefit from sports and find balance in their own livesMichelle Yeoh on partnering with Lululemon for its Lunar New Year capsule
To usher in the Year of the Dragon, Lululemon’s Lunar New Year short film “Be Spring” celebrates the arrival of Spring, a season of rebirths and new beginnings. Through Michelle and eight “Wing Chun” theatrical dancers, the film poetically enacts the meeting of the mind and body, delving into the concept of well-being, and invites one and all to seek eternal spring in our everyday lives.
Lululemon’s Lunar New Year capsule comprises tops, bottoms, bra tops, pullovers, T-shirts, and jackets in their signature ultra-soft, comfortable, and weightless Nulu fabric, satin and cotton terry material. Cop the exact Define Jacket Nulu and Steady State Pants Michelle was wearing in the video. Whether you are up for adventure or downtime, the Define Jacket Nulu style comes in a flattering body-skimming design with functional front pockets, thumbholes, and cuffins to keep the chills out. Best of all, it comes in five different colourways and runs from sizes 0 to 20! Inclusive indeed.
