GACKT elated to play a role in "The Unfettered Shogun" revival
19 Dec – GACKT has been confirmed to make an appearance in TV Asahi Drama "The Unfettered Shogun" in January.
The singer will play the role of Tokugawa Muneharu, a famous kabuki actor and lord of the Owari domain who aims to become Shogun, in the drama that has Ken Matsudaira returning as the lead.
Said the singer, "I've been watching Ken's work for a long time, so it's an honour to be able to co-star with him in this production. I'm very honoured."
"When I received the offer, I was shocked, thinking, 'Finally, that masterpiece is going to be revived!' Even though it's the first revival in 17 years, Ken is still full of power, and I was amazed," he said.
When asked his thoughts on working with director Takashi Miike, he said, "Miike's works are unique in terms of camerawork and story development. This work is a period drama, but the tempo is good, and I have high expectations for what kind of work it will be. I think that there are some differences between Miike's way of thinking and the historical dramas we've seen up until now, but I hope that this will be an opportunity for young people to realise that historical dramas are interesting."
"The Unfettered Shogun" was a long-running TV series that started in 1978, but ended in 2003. The new drama is a revival, with Ken Matsudaira returning as Tokugawa Yoshimune.
