Brandon Wong's son just wants to play board games with him

The actor also recounted when another of his sons was scared by a scene of him getting injured in a drama.

Being busy has become a convenient reason to miss out on life’s simplest joys, but perhaps this might encourage you to slow down and smell the roses.

On the latest episode of Mediacorp’s Just Swipe Lah, actor Brandon Wong’s 12-year-old son says the thing he likes most is playing board games with his father.

However, Wong admitted that the simple request from his second son is easier said than done, because he and his wife are busy with work.

“For example, if I’m busy, then the family depends on my wife. When my wife is busy, the family depends on me. We value the times when the whole family can be together, without any work,” the 51-year-old explained.

Eldest son doesn’t watch his dramas anymore

Wong, who is a father of three, also revealed that his eldest son doesn’t watch his dramas anymore after being scared by a scene from his 2012 drama Don’t Stop Believin’.

He recounted, “My eldest son was around four to five years old… There was this drama series and I was playing a discipline master in school. The students were very mischievous and they played some pranks.

“In the end, I slipped and fell down. He suddenly burst into tears beside me and hugged me while saying, ‘I don’t want Daddy to be injured’.”

Wong was shocked, as he didn't expect that young children would think what happened in shows were real.

From then on, whenever they turned on the television, his eldest son will ask if Wong’s shows are airing and will avoid watching them.

Celebrating Father’s Day

The newly-minted Best Supporting Actor (at the 2023 Star Awards) also shared how he would like to celebrate Father’s Day.

And he doesn’t require a big fancy celebration - it’s the company that matters for Wong.

He said, “I think that how we celebrate is not important. The most important is who we celebrate it with. So what I value the most is the whole family coming together, even if it’s just a simple meal.

“And let’s not use our mobile phones, and communicate properly as a family.”
