Zhang Ziyi and Wang Feng announce divorce
24 Oct - Zhang Ziyi and Wang Feng surprised many recently by announcing that they have ended their marriage of eight years.
The couple released their statements on social media on 23 October, expressing gratitude to those who supported them and saying that they have decided to end the marriage after much discussions and deliberations.
"In the future, we will continue to raise our children together," they added.
Zhang and Wang also stressed that their separation did not stem from any disappointment or betrayal, and that they hope that everybody will understand.
"The joys and sorrows of life are not simply judgments of right and wrong. We find another way to let each other grow better, and our love for the children will not be reduced at all due to separation. Out of the protection of the children and our families, to avoid excessive occupation of public resources, we make the above statement and will not make any further response to this matter," the former couple added.
It is noted that while the news came as a surprise to some, others stated that there have been traces of separation between the two, including their lack of social media posts about each other in recent months.
Zhang and Wang tied the knot in 2015. They welcomed their daughter in December the same year, and son in January 2020. Wang is also a father to a teenage daughter from a previous relationship.
