Zhang Ziyi to begin filming new movie, "Murder of the Husband"
26 Oct - Following the announcement of her divorce, it was revealed that Zhang Ziyi is set to star in an upcoming movie, ironically with the working title of, "Murder of the Husband" (aka "The Murderer").
Netizens recently found that the new movie has been officially filed, and will begin shooting in Shanghai in mid-November.
Directed by Peter Chan, the film, which also stars Lei Jiayin, is adapted from one of the four mysterious cases in China in the '40s, and tells the story of a butcher who was murdered and quartered by his wife after many periods of gambling and abuse.
The case coincided with the prevalence of feminism in Shanghai at the time, with a female writer setting off a wave of new public opinion by stating that the tragedy was the result of thousands of years of patriarchy and lack of equality.
While some couldn't help but think that the movie came at an opportune time for Zhang, others believed that the actress is not the right person to play the role, which would suit someone like Tang Wei more.
Earlier this week, Zhang released a joint-statement with husband Wang Feng, saying that they have decided to end their marriage of eight years.
