Wong Cho Lam adapts Off-Broadway musical into CNY movie

23 Sep – Wong Cho Lam recently revealed that his upcoming Lunar New Year film is an adaptation of the Off-Broadway musical, "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change!"

As reported on Mingpao, the comedian-turned-director, who appeared at the Performing Art Academy to begin the production of the movie, shared that he had been preparing the project for years ever since the play was staged in Hong Kong ten years ago.

"We took over a year of negotiation with [the producers] to obtain the rights to turn it into a Hong Kong musical film," he said.

Wong also revealed that they have cast 60 actors to play the various roles in the movie, with each actor playing multiple roles.

"The most is Teresa Mo, who will play about 16 roles, followed by Ivana Wong and Eric Tsang," he said.

When asked if the actors are working cheap, Wong said that he pays fair prices.

"I respect their job and won't ask for favours. I pay reasonable rates and then give them something small in return, that each character has its potential," he added.

Other actors who will be involved in the project include Nina Paw, Louis Yuen, and Harriet Yeung.

"I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change!" is a Joe DiPietro musical comedy first staged Off-Broadway in 1996, with its central theme being love and relationships.
