Will Ferrell has been leading a double life. While the funnyman is best known for his goofy characters, such as Ron Burgundy and his caricature of former President George W. Bush, he’s really been a family man all along.

The father of three showed off two of his sons, 5-year-old Axel and Mattias, 8, as well as his actress wife, Viveca Paulin, at the premiere of his latest comedy, Daddy’s Home, Sunday in New York. (Son Mangus, 11, did not attend.)

Paulin was lovely in a sparkly blouse and sleek pants, while her men sported suits and ties. Axel, who was allowed to wear jeans, even wore a bow tie.

The event came one day after Ferrell made a cameo as Bush on this weekend's Saturday Night Live. In that way, the weekend perfectly captured how Ferrell balances his work and home life.

“The thing that means the most is — it’s nice that I have success, of course — but to still maintain a family life through the whole thing,” Ferrell told the CBS affiliate in L.A. as he was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in March. “We’ve really been able to strike a balance between how intense the movie work can be. My wife and I [have a] real partnership in terms of raising our kids, so that’s the kind of thing I’m most proud of."

Ferrell has occasionally brought his kids to similar events. At the 2013 Emmys, for instance, all three of his sons accompanied him onstage to present an award. They all wore shorts and sandals, and Ferrell joked that the family "couldn’t find childcare."

Of course, most of the Elf star’s parenting is done off-camera.

"My wife and I — it sounds — it’s almost sickeningly sweet, [but] we are coaching together our 8-year-old’s team, the Chargers,” he recently told Entertainment Tonight. “Look out, AYSO Region 76! Here comes the Chargers!"
