Vivian Lai keeps an open mind about kids joining showbiz

22 Mar – When it comes to questions of whether or not her children will one day become a performer like herself, Hong Kong singer Vivian Lai said that she will have an open mind about it.

As reported on Mingpao, the singer, who recently sat down for an interview to promote her upcoming concert, shared that her 14-year-old daughter Kai Ying loves singing K-pop songs at home.

"She does have a good voice even though I never taught her singing. I am proud of that," she said.

When asked if she would let Kai Ying become a singer like herself, Vivian said that she will not discourage her, though she also acknowledges the challenges of becoming an artiste.

"I used to be such a simple person. I believe that a singer's job is only to sing songs and perform [at shows]. I didn't like doing interviews, taking pictures, and deal with all the other concerns and pressures," she said.

Vivian also admitted that she used to be unhappy and perturbed by gossips about her, no matter how trivial it is, and that the fact that she can't explain each and every one of them made her feel very helpless.

"Thus, I ask my children to decide themselves whether they want to be in this line of work," she said.
