Veteran actress Mona Lisa passed away

26 Aug – Veteran actress Mona Lisa has recently passed away, as reported on PEP.

The actress, known for her work in movies like "Princess Urduja" (1942) and "Itim" (1977), passed away peacefully at home on the afternoon of 25 August, according to her daughter Vangie Bocobo.

Born in 1922, Mona Lisa (real name Gloria Lerma Yatco) started her career using the name Fleur de Lis, and became known for being the first Filipina actress to wear swimsuit on the big screen through the movie, "Giliw Ko".

She retired from acting in the 1950s before making her return in movies like "Hanggang Langit" (1947) and "La Paloma" (1974).

However, it was Lino Brocka's "Insiang" (1976) that cemented her career, and enabled her to win Best Supporting Actress from FAMAS and Gawad Urian.

In 2013, Mona Lisa came out with her biography titled "Mona Lisa: A Portrait (From the Memoirs of a Grandmother)", printed by ABS-CBN Publishing and written by granddaughter Celine Beatrice Fabie.

She was 97.
