Veronica Yip keeps supermarkets open in New York
15 Apr – While most supermarkets and public venues are closed in New York to help flatten the curve of the pandemic, former actress Veronica Yip recently revealed that her husband's chain of supermarkets, the Hong Kong Supermarket are still open.
As reported on On CC, "The Eagle Shooting Heroes" actress, who has resided in New York since she married businessman husband Jeffrey Wu in 1996, told the media that the latter had insisted on keeping the supermarkets in Flushing and Manhattan's Chinatown open for the sake of the elderly.
"A lot of this elderly Chinese people may not know how to buy things online. Even if they know how, a lot of people are actually doing the same thing and there is a likelihood that they can't even place an order," she said.
Veronica stated that it is important for them to take care of their customers and provide them with these necessities, even if opening the supermarkets could jeopardise her and her husband's own health.
"My husband has hypertension and diabetes, and I am also at high risk because I am over 50," she stated.
As for their employees, the former actress stated that they are currently short-staffed, but have been giving employees who are willing to come to work an increase in salary.
