Valentino is celebrating the impact of vintage fashion with a global takeover.

The Italian fashion house has partnered with respected vintage stores around the world for temporary takeovers – including the much-loved Rellik in London.

The brand first launched its Valentino Vintage project back in 2021, inviting shoppers and fans of the house to bring their preloved pieces to select vintage stores, and exchange them for a voucher to be redeemed on another Valentino garment. The aim was to encourage circular shopping, as well as allowing customers to discover the beauty of archive designs. The initiative first started with four stores worldwide and has now grown to seven – spanning Paris, Milan, Los Angeles, New York, Seoul and Tokyo, as well as London.

"Every vintage boutique was carefully selected for its distinctive identity and its unique curated collection representing a local culture exclusive to the city," explained a Valentino press release. "Each of them brings a new story and innovative vision to the project."

This week, a global store takeover takes place simultaneously across the selected boutiques, each one transformed with a unique Valentino Vintage display designed to embody the DNA of the house. During this time, all customers are invited to take part in the exchange program, with up to a total of three garments. After the takeover, shoppers will still be able to purchase Valentino Vintage pieces from each of the stores, as well as take old pieces for valuation and resale, in exchange for a voucher to be redeemed at a Valentino store. Shoppers can also take part in the project by submitting pieces for valuation online.

In London, Rellik was chosen for its reputation and "experimental selection" featuring pieces from the 1960s: "full of gems that will last a lifetime". The boutique, owned by Fiona Stuart – who has an extensive knowledge of vintage Valentino pieces, allowing her to accurately understand and value each item – first opened in 1999 and has been a must-visit for secondhand luxury fashion fans ever since.

The vintage stores taking part globally are:

Madame Pauline in Milan

The Plaisir Palace in Paris

Recess in Los Angeles

The Vintage Dress in Tokyo

Janemarch Maison in Seoul

New York Vintage in New York City

The Valentino Vintage takeover at Rellik, 8 Golborne Rd, W10 5NW, runs until 23 April. Take part in Valentino Vintage online here.
