umisushi: Welcome the majestic Year of the Dragon with IG-worthy dragon yu sheng & festive platters
As Christmas fades away, the festive ‘dong dong dong qiang‘ tunes herald a lively atmosphere in every mall. It seems like the festive celebrations are never-ending (not that I’m complaining). What better way to usher in the majestic Year of the Dragon than to embrace the range of Chinese New Year yu sheng and festive platters from umisushi?
As the date approaches each year, I find myself actively searching for new places to buy the essential yu sheng for my family and friends’ gathering. During my visit to umisushi, I realised that I had been living under a rock, completely unaware of their fantastic festive platters and yu sheng sets, especially when they have 17 convenient locations island-wide.

What I tried at umisushi
Year after year, the dedicated culinary team at umisushi is known for crafting Chinese zodiac-themed yu sheng, and this year is no exception. In honour of the magnificent Year of the Dragon, the umi HUAT HUAT Yu Sheng (U.P.: S$128.88, Festive price: S$138.88) is designed to resemble… you guessed it right; a dragon!
Do note that Festive Prices apply from 9 to 12 Feb 2024.
Made from a combination of fresh veggies and condiments decked out in a spectrum of colours, the Instagram-worthy yu sheng is chaperoned with a plethora of 18 Norwegian salmon slices. A tangy citrus-infused plum sauce adds a memorable sweet and refreshing finish, completing the experience.
With its artistic charm, I’m certain that some may hesitate to dismantle such a masterpiece. It took me some time, too.
Receive an abundance of prosperity and good fortune with the umi Da Ji Yu Sheng (U.P.: S$108.88, Festive price: S$118.88), meticulously assembled to mimic the Chinese character 吉 (Ji).
The foundation consists of freshly-shredded vegetables combined with auspicious yu sheng condiments. 18 pieces of Norwegian salmon slices, traditional plum dressing, and mandarin orange segments complete this harmonious composition.
If you’re looking for a fuss-free, simple option, then go for the umi Prosperity Yu Sheng.
Regular (4-6 pax) (Retail Exclusive): S$42.88
Medium (6-8 pax): (U.P.: S$55.88, Festive price: S$65.88)
Large (8-12 pax): (U.P.: S$65.88, Festive price: S$75.88)
For an extra dash of style (and flavour) you can add on 18 pieces of Norwegian Salmon Slices (U.P.: +S$32.88, Festive price: +S$38.88).
It goes without saying that umisushi excels in what they do best: sushi. What better way to complement your yu sheng sets than to indulge in the Hana Fortune Sushi Platter (53pcs) (U.P.: S$68.88, Festive price: S$78.88)?
This 53-piece platter showcases a vibrant array of hues from the colour wheel and if you pay close attention, you’ll realise that the Pink Maki in the middle is arranged to signify The Blossom of Fortune (花开富貴). This platter will surely appease everyone from seniors to little kids alike.

The Chicken Floss Maki is topped with fluffy clouds of deliciousness, instantly crumbles in your mouth while the sesame seeds which are stuck to the sides add a subtle nuttiness to its overall taste.
