TV Guide for Singapore in February 2021: Superman & Lois, To All The Boys I Loved 3, L.U.C.A.: The Beginning and more

Every month, we’ll tell you about new shows to hit terrestrial and cable channels, as well as streaming sites in Singapore. We’ll also highlight the television shows that you’ve got to be home (or on your phone) to catch every month.

Overview of February's shows

February sees the world's greatest superhero finally returning to screens in his own television series in Superman & Lois on Warner TV. The Good Doctor also returns for a fourth season on Fox this month. This month sees a bevy of documentaries coming out on BBC channels, as well as films like Space Sweepers and To All The Boys: Always And Forever on Netflix. Korean melodramas provide entertainment over the Chinese New Year holidays, with Love, Scene, Number# on both Oh!K and Viu. But Korean sci-fi drama L.U.C.A.: The Beginning on Viu looks very interesting too...

L.U.C.A.: The Beginning (2 Feb)

Biological experiment Z-O (Kim Rae-Won) has been on the run his whole life, ever since he escaped the laboratory in which he was created. But when he meets detective Goo-Reum (Lee Da-Hee), who searches for the truth behind her parents' disappearance, his life changes. Between devious conspiracies and mysterious assailants, will the pair finally find the answers to the questions they seek?

L.U.C.A.: The Beginning looks like it was made with a heavy dose of slick and only a slight sprinkling of melodrama. Will we finally see a Korean drama that focuses on action rather than overdramatic romantic plot twists? Is it possible that this is a show which doesn't focus on some sort of blossoming relationship between the leads? If it is, then Western superhero shows look like they have a serious competitor on their hands.

To All The Boys: Always And Forever (12 Feb)

In the final instalment of the To All The Boys I Loved Before trilogy, Lara Jean Song Convey (Lana Condor) finds her life changed forever after going on two trips. If her love with Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo) is to endure their final year of high school, then she must learn to make painful, difficult decisions. Life will never be the same for her again.

If you loved the first two To All The Boys I Loved films, you'll love this film, which shows more of Lara and Peter's relationship. Of course, this being a romantic comedy, it's a foregone conclusion that the couple will end up together forever even with John (Jordan Fisher) in the picture. Those road trips also look like golden moments to insert some (painfully) hipster scenes into the film too, which look like a sufficiently interesting diversion from the will-they-or-won't-they ups and downs of Lara and Peter's love.

The Good Doctor (Season 4) (16 Feb, Tuesdays 10pm)

The fourth season opens with young autistic surgeon Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) and his friends in San Jose St Bonaventure Hospital as they deal with the very real onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic. With lives on the line, including their own, they must continuing upholding the Hippocratic oath while dealing with personal losses to the coronavirus. It remains to be seen if Shaun and Lea's (Paige Spara) new relationship will survive the events of this season.

It's only apt that a medical drama dramatises COVID-19 in some form, although this is only for the first few episodes – it would be difficult for the actors to emote with masks over their face for their entire season, after all. This season also features a few hopeful messages from the cast about the pandemic, which is heartening. But what is more interesting to see is how Shaun will navigate a world where everyone is masked (even if it's only for a few episodes), and how he will react when his emotions rage against his rationality.

Superman & Lois (24 Feb, Wednesdays 9pm [premiere], Wednesdays 9.50pm [subsequent episodes]

The world's most famous superhero, Superman (Tyler Hoechlin), and his wife Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) move back to Smallville to raise their two sons, Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) and Jordan (Alexander Grafin), even as they navigate the difficulties of being working parents. They rediscover old friendships and rekindle past relationships, but the job of a superhero is never done – even in a quiet town like Smallville.

Why is everything so desaturated? Hopefully, the tone of the show will be a little more vibrant than the colour palette that we've seen. Visuals aside, it's exciting to see a new Superman TV show on the small screen after over a decade (the last show was Smallville, which ended in 2011). What's even more interesting is how the show explores a different and rarely shown phase of Clark Kent's life – as a father with kids to take care of. Will we see three super-powered beings in tights and capes in future seasons? I certainly hope so.
