New in town: Pasta Express’s flagship outlet offers cheap customisable pastas

Five-year-old Pasta Express was started by husband and wife duo, Yingjing and Jinhui. The couple wanted to offer quality pastas with wallet-friendly prices to university students. They have just opened their first flagship outlet located at The Venue Residences and Shoppes on 11 June 2022.

Western food stalls at universities and other institutions would typically sell the usual fare of chicken chop and simple pastas— I’m sure we had our fair share of those when we were schooling. Pasta Express aims to change that perception by being the first establishment to offer students and staff the freedom to customise their own pasta.

Currently, Pasta Express’s existing four outlets are all located within universities which are— NTU North Spine, NUS Frontier, NUS Deck and SMU Connexion. With their latest flagship outlet, it would be easily accessible to the public— good news for people like me who have graduated decades ago!

Pasta Express Venue Shoppes offers a base of organic spaghetti with three kinds of sauces of your choice— Cream Sauce, Aglio Olio or Tomato Sauce (S$4.40 each). To complete your yummy bowl of pasta, you are required to choose a minimum of three toppings.

That includes a selection of Meat Toppings (S$1.60 each) including Smoked Duck, Pork Bacon, Minced Beef and others. If you’re leaning towards the healthier side like myself, you can also opt for their Vegetable Toppings (S$1 each) like Broccoli, Cherry Tomatoes and Button Mushrooms, amongst others. The combinations you can come up with are aplenty, and I’m loving the fact that you aren’t restricted by the conventional variations like those at other places.

Due to the fact that Pasta Express Venue Shoppes provides more premium ingredients such as prawns, baby spinach and button mushrooms, the prices here are slightly steeper than their other existing four university outlets. But it’s still pretty affordable in my books!

My mouth is drooling just thinking about all my favourite ingredients I can add into my own customised pasta bowl. I guess I’ll drop by this humble homegrown eatery very soon!
