SINGAPORE — Here are the local male celebrities that Yahoo users in Singapore searched for most in 2020. (Check out the list of female celebs here.)

10. Benjamin Kheng

It’s been a big year for Kheng. The multi-hyphenate talent got engaged to radio DJ Naomi Yeo; released several music singles since his solo debut after The Sam Willows went on hiatus; and turned 30 in the middle of a pandemic.

9. Edmund Chen

The 59-year-old actor made headlines when he showed off a ripped shirtless bod, complete with abs, that a guy in his thirties would be proud of. Other than that, we’re not sure what Edmund Chen’s been up to, aside from appearing in YouTube ads for financial services.

Dasmond Koh, founder of NoonTalk Media agency and manager of the late actor Aloysius Pang, wrote a song in tribute to him and shared a music video for the song, titled This World Without You, during a memorial for Pang on 5 January 2020 at the NoonTalk Media premises at Alice@Mediapolis. 7. Mark Lee

Comedian Mark Lee had the honour of attending the Golden Horse Film Awards in Taipei last month after being nominated for Best Actor for his role as a drag queen in local film Number 1. The acting award went in the end to Taiwan’s Mo Tzu-yi, who starred in gay drama Dear Tenant. Lee also appeared in Jack Neo’s new film, The Diam Diam Era, in a decidedly less impressive performance.

6. Tay Ping Hui

Tay has been filming in Johor Bahru for iQiyi’s fantasy series, The Ferryman: Legends Of Nanyang, whose cast also includes several other Singaporean actors, including Lawrence Wong, Qi Yu Wu, Jeanette Aw, Michelle Chia, Terence Cao, Fiona Xie and Jessica Liu.

5. Pierre Png

Mediacorp heartthrob Pierre Png starred in two Channel 8 dramas this year, My Guardian Angels (which was slammed by viewers for homophobic tropes) and Jungle Survivor. The 46-year-old recently celebrated his 17th wedding anniversary with wife Andrea De Cruz at Raffles Hotel.

4. Bryan Wong

Bryan Wong starred as a scheming eunuch this year in Channel 8 drama A Quest To Heal, which also starred Qi Yu Wu and Carrie Wong. He also treated fans to his piano and singing talents with nightly online concerts during Singapore’s COVID-19 lockdown, or Circuit Breaker, as it was called.

3. Desmond Tan

One of Mediacorp’s Eight Dukes, bilingual actor Desmond Tan appeared this year in the final season of English crime series Code Of Law as the memorable serial killer Derek, as well as Mandarin dramas Control and Who Is The Killer?

2. Lawrence Wong

Having made headway into China’s entertainment scene, Story Of Yanxi Palace star Lawrence Wong was named Chinese streamer iQiyi’s international ambassador. He also starred in his first drama where he plays the male lead role in Girlfriend. In July, Wong began filming in Johor Bahru for iQiyi’s The Ferryman: Legends Of Nanyang, whose cast also includes several other Singaporean actors.

1. JJ Lin

Singapore’s biggest pop star JJ Lin released his long-awaited 14th album in October, titled Drifter / Like You Do. Lin and Stefanie Sun put up a duet performance of “Stay With You” during this year’s National Day Parade show. The two singer-songwriters co-wrote the song as a tribute to frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic – Sun wrote the lyrics, while Lin composed the music.
