Taiwan's Mo Tzu-yi beats Singaporean Mark Lee for Best Leading Actor award
Mo Tzu-yi won Best Leading Actor for Dear Tenant at the Golden Horse Awards announced on Saturday (21 November), despite all high hopes placed on Singaporean actor-comedian Mark Lee.
In Dear Tenant, Mo stars as a tenant who has been looking after the son and the elderly mother of his deceased boyfriend. The actor said upon receiving his award, “I’m able to stand on this stage today does not mean I am the best actor. It is because of the support and inspiration from the seniors in the industry; the hard work from the production team; and a little bit of luck.”

My Missing Valentine by director Chen Yu-hsun clinched the most awards this year (five out of 11 nominations!), including Best Director, Best Original Screenplay (Chen Yu-hsun), Best Visual Effects (Tomi Kuo), Best Film Editing (Lai Hsiu-hsiung) and Best Narrative Feature.
Nadow Lin won Best Supporting Actor for Classmates Minus. The variety-show-host-turned-actor hoped that he could follow in the successful footsteps of Liu Kuan-ting, the Best Supporting Actor last year who was nominated for Best Leading Actor this year.
The most heart-warming is 81-year-old Chen Shu-fang bagging two prestigious awards: Best Leading Actress for Little Big Women and Best Supporting Actress for Dear Tenant. Not only did she receive them at one go, but they are also her first Golden Horse Awards in her 63 years in the industry. The veteran actress even joked that although she won these awards, her rates would remain the same.
One of the most eye-catching winners is 20-year-old Chen Yan-fei, who cried uncontrollably upon receiving the Best New Performer award for her impressive acting in The Silent Forest. Although Mark Lee did not win Best Leading Actor, Number 1’s Raymond Kuek (right in the above Instagram post) and Azni Samdin, who was absent and represented by the Singaporean director Ong Kuo-sin (left in the above Instagram post), won Best Makeup and Costume Design.
Singapore-Taiwan production Precious Is The Night — starring Singaporean hunkle model-photographer Chuando Tan as a doctor entangled in a web of deceit, sex and lies — was also nominated for Best Cinematography (Taiwanese director Wayne Peng) and Best Makeup and Costume Design (Singaporean producer Lim Sau-hoong).

Number 1 and My Missing Valentine are now showing in Singapore cinemas, while Dear Tenant is slated to open in Singapore cinemas on 3 December 2020, and Precious Is The Night on 10 December 2020.
