Actor-comedian Mark Lee on playing a drag queen for his new film

SINGAPORE – Actor-comedian Mark Lee received a ‘Best Leading Actor’ nomination for the 57th Golden Horse Awards for his portrayal of a drag queen in Number 1, according to a live-stream announcement yesterday (30 Sept).
The film is produced by mm2 Entertainment and directed by Ong Kuo Sin, which has not yet opened in cinemas.
In an interview with Yahoo Lifestyle SEA, Lee shared that he had to wear a prosthetic on the butt area, and also three to four pairs of stockings. On top of that, “I have to shave my legs before we begin filming.”
For this role, Lee had to undergo six weeks of training, including how to wear and strut in heels, as well as dancing.

In an Instagram Story posted by Lee, the actor shared that he was “very happy to be nominated,” and thanked the judges for recognising his works.
Lee goes up against other nominees: Liu Kuan-Ting (My Missing Valentine), Austin Lin (iWeirdo), Mo Tzu-yi (Dear Tenant), and Lam Ka-tung (Hand Rolled Cigarette).
According to Lianhe Zaobao, Lee plays a general manager who got retrenched, and he then turns to drag performance to make a living.
