How to take care of your feet
Our feet are probably the most neglected part of our body, despite how much we depend on them. Whether it is for support, balance, and posture, our feet form the foundation for our entire body.
Other than going for a foot massage, here are some ways to take care of your feet, especially after a long day of walking or standing.
1. Keep your feet clean, dry but moisturised
The most basic thing you can do for your feet is, of course, to keep them clean. You can wash your feet with warm water, but avoid soaking them as it may dry them out. It is also advisable to change your socks regularly and air your shoes to prevent fungus infections.
Just like how our hands and body need to be moisturised, our feet deserve some love in the form of moisturiser as well! But don’t apply moisturiser between your toes, which may lead to infections.

2. Rest and relax your feet
One way to rest and relax your feet is to elevate them, such as doing the Legs-Up-the-Wall yoga pose. You can also massage your feet with your fingers or roll your feet over a tennis ball.

3. Exercise your feet
As strange as it sounds, exercising your feet is a way to take care of them. This helps to maintain blood circulation. Taking 30-minute brisk walks should do the trick each day.

4. Check your feet
As our feet are the furthermost body part from our eyes, cuts, swells and infections may go unnoticed if you don’t actively check them. Don’t forget to check between your toes too!
5. Avoid wearing tight-fitting shoes and shoes without arch support
Your shoes shouldn’t hurt your feet. If it doesn’t feel comfortable when you’re trying out a new pair of shoes, you shouldn’t buy them no matter how gorgeous they look. Flip-flops, flats, and very high heels also don’t provide enough arch support and may hurt your feet.
Fun fact: feet size changes throughout the day. It’s usually the biggest at the end of the day, and the smallest at the start of the day. So if you’re shopping for shoes, do it at the end of the day. You should also try on both sides of the shoes and buy the size that fits your larger foot, if one foot is slightly bigger.

6. Trim your toenails
Clip your toenails straight across, then file to smooth the corners. This will help prevent the nail from growing into your skin. If you use nail polish often, remember to take periodic breaks to prevent nail discolouration and nail brittleness.
