The best mooncakes guide for Mid-Autumn Festival 2023

Here are more options you can start getting now, especially when you can still get early-bird discounts in August.

It's mooncake season again, and this year, Mid-Autumn Festival 2023 (中秋节) is happening on the 29th of September in Singapre. About time to start considering your mooncake options, dig out the fancy teapot set, the best tea leaves you have in your stash, and of course, find a nice spot to stare at the moon as you feast on mooncakes with your loved ones.

1) Fairmont Hotel

Fullerton Group is featuring two mooncake collections this year: the Jade Signatures Mooncake Collection from The Fullerton Hotel Singapore features tea-infused flavours; while The Clifford Pier Mooncake Tingkat (90th Anniversary Edition) from The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore features more traditional flavours with a simple twist. As a confectionery brand synonymous with chocolates, it goes without saying that Janice Wong will be bringing back their Signature Chocolate Mooncakes. Themed “Childhood Memories” as a capture of familiar flavours that most grew up with, this set of Chocolate Mooncakes (S$105 for 8 pieces) features flavours like Peanut Butter Snickers, Salted Pecan Dark Chocolate, Vanilla Biscoff and Coffee Chocolate. 7) Mid-Autumn highlights at Hashida

In celebration of Hashida's 10th Anniversary in Singapore, Chef Kenjiro Hashida has chosen to showcase Singaporean and Japanese cultures through his take on snowskin mooncake, filled with delicate and nuanced flavours from his hometown and wrapped in a traditional Chinese glutinous rice skin. Pre-orders start 14th August and customers can collect them after 28th August.

For the first time, fans of contemporary Chinese restaurant Mott 32 can savour a medley of four exquisite mooncakes inspired by the award-winning restaurant’s signature dishes. Housed in an elegant blue box laced with gold embroidery and embodying the beauty of nature, the creations feature distinctive flavours such as Mott 32’s signature bamboo green forest dessert in Matcha Forest, Hanami cocktail in Yuzu-Umeshu, and more.

The pioneers of Singapore’s cafe scene will be launching the first-ever edition of their mooncake set. Encased in a flaky, Cantonese-style baked skin, these mooncakes boast a quartet of decadent flavours, each inspired by PS.Cafe's beloved classic menu. Redmart has their in-house mooncake brand that comes in three flavours: Durian, Champagne truffle and traditional. Limited to only 200 sets, the opulent box by Roku Gin x Manhattan Bar in Conrad Hotel serves up an assortment of eight handcrafted mini snowskin mooncakes, created with utmost precision and artistry by the master chefs at Summer Palace. Each mooncake is adorned with gold-dusted charcoal skin, while inside awaits a tantalising surprise—a chocolate ball with a core of Roku Gin, nestled within a decadent lotus paste and a booze-filled cherry.

Completing the box is a bottled cocktail of Purple Moon, a spirit-forward libation of Roku Gin, banana wine, sweet potato, whey syrup, and hazelnut tincture by Manhattan Bar. A departure from the traditional baked mooncakes, Swensen’s line-up of mochi-snowskin ice cream mooncakes makes a complementary surprise to the table with five new mainstays to discover. Flavours include Mao Shan Wang, Strawberry, Ube, Genmaicha, and Lychee Rose. Other long-time favourites will make a return in the 2023 line-up as well.

The mooncakes will be available from 1 August to 29 September 2023 at all Swensen's & Earle Swensen's outlets, via Swensen’s e-Store and on GrabFood, FoodPanda and Deliveroo.

16) The Peninsula

Launched exclusively for this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, The Peninsula adds two new mooncake flavours to its lineup, which presents fresh iterations to a well-loved taste of tradition.

The Mini Chocolate Egg Custard Mooncakes fragrance the egg custard mooncakes with classic chocolate and a rich toffee filling and another with chocolate brownies, both encased in enticing pastry shells of chocolate.

Meanwhile, the Mini Fruity Egg Custard Mooncakes imbue the creaminess of the egg custard mooncakes with two variations of fruit – one with the sweetness of strawberry and the other, with the tanginess of mango and passionfruit.
