If you think Taylor Swift’s Rhode Island home is an enviable piece of real estate (despite possibly being haunted), it’s about to get even more desirable. The Grammy-winning singer is planning to give the Holiday House a $1.7-million upgrade, which includes a kitchen renovation. So we tapped interior designers for their expert input on the improvements they’d make to the cookspace.

Over the years, Swift has shared a few snapshots of her beachside kitchen particularly during her famous Fourth of July parties. Admittedly, it’s not a whole lot to go off. But her lifestyle offers plenty of inspiration.

Make It the Eras Kitchen

For the overall style of the kitchen, Caitlin Creer would craft a fresh coastal take on a traditional New England kitchen. “Taylor deserves a kitchen in this house worthy of both an icon and an heiress—something Rebekah Harkness, the original owner, would approve of,” the designer and author says. “I’d love to see a throwback look that honors the historical roots of the home while being quintessentially Rhode Island.”

Creer thinks the kitchen should also have subtle nods to her music, in true Taylor fashion, for example incorporating colors like “midnight blue” and “lavender haze.” Since the singer is known for Easter eggs in her work, Creer would love to see “unexpected details in the millwork and hardware that juxtapose traditional cabinetry and a statement making marble countertop.” She’d also make sure to incorporate a memorable, conversation-starting wallpaper for a lively burst of color and pattern along with vintage lighting.

Take Full Advantage of the Setting

Designer Kerith Flynn would create “an open-concept layout that emphasizes seamless indoor-outdoor flow, with panoramic views showcased through large windows or even a glass wall for unobstructed vistas of the water,” the Margali & Flynn Designs founder says. “Accordion doors would open directly onto an outdoor dining area or terrace, creating a smooth transition between indoor and outdoor living spaces.”

The kitchen's colors should reflect the coastal surroundings. "The palette should draw inspiration from the sea with serene tones like soft whites, sandy beiges, seafoam greens, and deep ocean blues," says Flynn. "These colors will create a tranquil, natural ambiance."

Ensure It's a Party House

Flynn would integrate high-end appliances into custom cabinetry. A mix of open shelving for displaying elegant dinnerware and drawers for tucking away unsightly necessities would maximize functionality and charm. “A large, statement island would serve as both a prep area and an entertainment hub, crafted from timeless materials like marble to elevate the space,” she adds.

To make the kitchen even more luxurious for hour parties, Flynn would install smart home features “including faucets, smart ovens, temperature-controlled wine storage, and lighting systems that can be controlled via smartphone or voice commands” to ensure the space is easily adaptable for entertaining or cooking solo.

Since there will be frequent large gatherings, Flynn would make sure there's plenty of prep space that's tucked away from the main area. "To ensure the main kitchen remains uncluttered during gatherings, I would incorporate a spacious butler’s pantry with its own prep area, extra storage, and small appliances," she says. "For larger homes, a private chef’s kitchen or second prep area is ideal, allowing for simultaneous meal preparation and entertaining."

Honor the Cat Lady

Designer Laura Tribbett would make sure that the singer’s cats are extra taken care of. “It's no secret that Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson, and Benjamin Button are all living their best nine lives, so I wouldn't be surprised if Taylor incorporated a dedicated feeding station for them into her new kitchen,” says the founder of Outline Interiors. “Knowing her attention to detail and penchant for luxury, I recommend integrating a little nook with a honed marble countertop, integrated bowls, soothing zellige tile, and a little pot filler to make those refills as efficient as possible.”
