SINGAPORE — Taiwanese actress Lin Chi-ling and Japanese singer Ryohei Kurosawa, known by the stage name Akira, have tied the knot.

The 44-year-old supermodel made the shocking announcement on Thursday (6 June) on Chinese microblogging site Weibo with a letter in Mandarin, along with a photo of herself and 37-year-old Akira. “I always firmly believe that if I believe strongly enough in love, I will find it.”

The announcement has stunned fans as there were no signs that the couple were dating previously.

Ending the note, Lin wrote, “I'm married! I hope that everyone who believes in love will find happiness that belongs solely to you."

Her note, posted at about 7pm, has garnered over 1.6 million likes and almost 300,000 comments as of 10.30pm.

Separately, Lin’s management also issued a statement, saying that the couple have not make a decision on their wedding banquet, but they “will share the joy with their families”.

“Of course, the couple are also hoping that in future, there will be a new member of their family,” it added.

Akira, member of the popular J-pop boybands Exile and Exile The Second, also posted the announcement in English and Japanese on his Instagram account, along with a photo of himself with Lin.

His post has over 210,000 likes as of 10.30pm.

“Ever since sharing the stage with her on “Red Cliff -Love-” eight years ago, we developed a friendship and just last year, it evolved into something more. I felt strongly that I want her to be my partner in life as we see our true selves in each other,” said the singer.

Of his wife, he described her as someone who always puts her family, friends and fans before herself as well as one who stays true to her roots.

He added, “I was strongly attracted to her sense of responsibility and caring nature.
With a smile, she always accepts me for who I am, and I constantly feel nothing but appreciation for her kindness. It pushes me to be better and I truly want to make her happy.”
