Studio Kembara confirms letting go of Areel Abu Bakar from "Mat Kilau" prequel

2 Oct - Studio Kembara's Shahruddin Mat Dali recently confirmed that the company has let go of Areel Abu Bakar as the director of their "Mat Kilau" prequel movie.

Shahruddin, who was asked about the controversy recently, stated that the discussion of ending Areel's role was made in a peaceful manner after 55 days of him helming the project.

"I can't reveal the reason unless there is a need to do so. But yes, it's true that we have let him go. This is all related to the work itself," he said.

Shahruddin stated that they have previously stressed that they will only release a movie that they think has the best quality.

"It is a normal practice in the industry to terminate any member of a production team, including a director. It doesn't mean he is not good, but for this particular work, I think it's sufficed for him to work to this extent," he expressed.

As for Areel's statement that he has already completed 90 percent of the project, Shahruddin said that that's subjective since the movie has not fully completed all its phases yet.

"It is currently in postproduction. We need some detailing at the end. It will be released next year," he added.
