SINGAPORE — Mediacorp announced yesterday the nominees for the Star Awards 2022 Most Popular Artistes.

20 nominees were announced for both the Top 10 Most Popular Female and Male Artistes, making for a total of 40 nominees. See the full list of nominees below.

YES 933 DJs Kun Hua and Chen Ning hosted an hour-long live-streamed ceremony in which they interviewed the nominees one by one as they were revealed.

The nominations for the other Star Awards categories were announced last month – check out the full list of nominees here.

Brandon Wong's first nod for Most Popular Artiste

Notably, it was veteran actor Brandon Wong's first nomination for the coveted award. The hosts were surprised when he told them it was his first nomination for the category in his 27-year career.

Asked to make a speech to canvass votes, 50-year-old Wong joked, "I feel like a woman who has finally gotten pregnant after trying many times. A mature pregnancy is very dangerous. Whether I can give birth to a healthy baby is up to the audience."

Wong added, "Every year during the Star Awards, my children will ask me, 'Daddy, why weren't you nominated?' I didn't know what to tell them. Today I can tell my three precious kids: I've finally been nominated. You can feel a little proud of your daddy."

The nominees were identified via a Popularity Survey of 1,000 people in Singapore conducted by an accredited market research company.

The final results will be determined by the Popularity Survey results (30%) and a public vote (70%), as verified by professional auditors.

Fans of the celebrities will be able to vote online for the Top 10 Most Popular Female and Male Artistes Awards from 11 March, 12.00pm to 24 April, 8.00pm.

The special awards in this segment are for the Favourite Couple Pairing, the Male Show Stealer, the Female Show Stealer, Most Hated Villain, Perfect Combo and Most Attention-Seeking New Gen Host.
