Star Awards 2022 nominations are out; Chen Hanwei serving as host for first time
SINGAPORE – The nominations for Star Awards 2022 are out – check out the full list of nominees below.
In a surprise move, actor Chen Hanwei was named as the main host of this year's Star Awards show.
This will be Chen's first time as a solo anchor host for an awards ceremony. He happens to be up for the Best Actor category this year, too.
The annual local Chinese showbiz awards will be held at The Theatre at Mediacorp on 24 April.
Last year's show was held at Changi Airport, while the ceremony was cancelled altogether in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a featurette video in which the Star Awards producers revealed to Chen that they had chosen him to be the host, the actor said he was nervous but would rise up to the challenge.
"When I was a contender for the Top 10 Most Popular Artistes awards, I got really upset when the hosts teased us. Now it's payback time. Viewers should find it funny, because I know the actors well, so I'll be able to tease them," Chen said.

The red carpet segment this year will feature a gigantic Zoom wall where fans will be invited to dial in to interact with their favourite artistes.
In another first, this year's awards will feature a special robot escort – the locally produced LeoBot, which will deliver the trophies to award winners.
The Mandarin language showbiz awards will be broadcast live on Channel 8 and Channel U.
It will also be streamed live on MeWatch and the Mediacorp Entertainment YouTube channel.
The red carpet segment, Walk of Fame, will begin at 5.00pm.
The Star Awards ceremony will begin at 7.00pm.
A seven-hour Backstage Live commentary marathon, a new segment which was introduced at last year's Star Awards, will begin at 3.30pm. The Backstage Live event will only be available on MeWatch and Mediacorp Entertainment's YouTube channel.
