What’s a month of love without watching a rom-com? Forecasting Love And Weather is among Netflix’s latest K-dramas, about romantic happenings inside the Korea Meteorological Administration.

The first two episodes of the 16-episode series are now on Netflix. Below, we list five highlights that show why Forecasting Love And Weather is different from your usual rom-com.

1. Song Kang portrays a weather-forecasting nerd.

Song Kang has been dubbed the "son of Netflix" since he's appeared in quite a few dramas that were picked up by Netflix: Love Alarm, Sweet Home, Navillera, Nevertheless, and now, Forecasting Love And Weather

He portrays Lee Shi-woo – Shi as in time and Woo as in rain in Korean. Shi-woo has great intuition in predicting weather and beams with excitement when he observes fine weather and comes across rare clouds.

His oddly passionate personality is not well appreciated by everyone though, including his girlfriend Chae Yoo-jin (Yura).

He also becomes adamant and persistent about his weather predictions, even when the data says otherwise. However, he proves his capabilities when he accurately predicts the weather time after time.

2. Park Min-young plays a weather forecaster who tends to play it too safe.

On the other hand, Park Min-young, known for starring in What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim with Park Seo-joon, portrays a conscientious and overly careful weather forecaster Jin Ha-kyung.

Unlike Shi-woo, she prefers to judge from numbers and statistics. Despite her outwardly strict appearance, she possesses a kind and caring heart that few notice. Her devotion to work causes a strained relationship with her fiancé Han Ki-joon (Yoon Park).

3. It depicts lesser known aspects of weather predictions.

The first episode pits the two main characters with different working styles against each other, putting the consequences of a wrong weather prediction on the line.

In tropical countries where the weather is either hot or rainy — the most we have to worry about is flash floods — accurate weather predictions don’t look like a big deal.

But through the drama, you can see how the weather, especially extreme conditions like hail and torrential rain, affect a variety of people and places, such as farmers, coastal guards, construction sites and dams.

If Shi-woo’s worries are mainly for these people and places, Ha-kyung’s considerations are more on the financial repercussions of the manpower mobilisation in the event of a wrong weather prediction.

4. It compares the (un)predictability of weather to romantic relationships.

Just like the weather, relationships give off signals, whether they are going in the right direction, or there is an upcoming storm.

Being able to detect the signals may save you a lot of trouble in the aftermath. Yet at the same time, love can happen like a sudden flash of lightning and catch you off guard.

The drama wittily plays on this comparison, making for a distinctive plot that is both appealing and a notch better than the average rom-com.

5. Lee Shi-woo and Jin Ha-kyung are like two different air currents coming together to form a rare phenomenon.

Despite their strikingly different personalities, Shi-woo and Ha-kyung develop an unlikely relationship.

Even though the two actors are eight years apart in age, their chemistry makes them a lovely on-screen couple that fans will likely ship.

Their amusing interactions will be the selling point of the drama and the fuel that will keep its audience hooked.

New episodes of Forecasting Love And Weather will drop every Saturday and Sunday on Netflix.
