Sofia Vergara Pairs Oxblood Coat and Trousers With Archival Alaia Platform Boots in NYC
Sofia Vergara is still in New York City after rumors spread that she’d been on a two hour lunch “date” with F1 racer Lewis Hamilton — sources denied that it was a date to Us Weekly. The actress, who divorced Joe Manganiello last year, was spotted in the big apple. Carrying a YSL Envelope bag, she wore an oxblood overcoat as well as matching wide leg trousers.
For shoes, Vergara went with a pair of Maison Alaïa platform boots, which are made of croc-embossed patent leather and also feature a rounded toe. Introduced in 2011, the shoes include a thick platform on the midsole and a rubber outsole with a combat-boot style tread. The style also includes a thick heel of six inches.

It is unclear how high the boots go up: Alaïa has offered a version of these as booties, cutting below the ankle but also offered a version as an ankle boot, with a collar that rises above the ankle. Both versions integrate a zipper.
While Maison Alaïa does not appear to sell the boots currently, a few resale sites have them. Vestiaire Collective is selling a pair for $282 in the lower variation. The Real Real also has the low version for $156. Julien’s, an auction house, sold the taller version with another pair of Giuseppe Zanotti boots for $75. A Chelsea boot version is on Ebay for $250.
Vergara is a noted fan of platform styles. She’s often seen in strappy sandals that feature a chunky sole. They typically add about six inches to her height. This was evident last night while she was filming and making appearances for “America’s Got Talent.” The judge wore a series of metallic strappy platform sandals. Platforms add height to shoes without increasing the pitch. For many, this means adding height while including some level of comfort. But for other styles it can add height that can be obtained in no other way — as in the original Marc Jacobs Kiki boot.
