SINGAPORE — In the first trailer for the upcoming third season of HBO’s Westworld, we saw a glimpse of Singapore’s Raffles Place skyline. Now, in the sci-fi series latest trailer, Singapore’s mega-development Marina One is featured.

In the trailer which HBO dropped at its Comic-Con event on Sunday (21 July), the character of Dolores Abernathy, played by Evan Rachel Wood, walks through a futuristic-looking building with greenery and a man-made waterfall.

According to CNA Lifestyle, Westworld filmed at various locations in Singapore from 1 to 9 July, including Marina One, Chinatown, Robinson Road, Orchard Road, the National Gallery, Esplanade Park, School of The Arts, Helix Bridge, the hotel Parkroyal on Pickering, LASALLE College of the Arts and Oasia Hotel Singapore.

Westworld’s co-creator Lisa Joy recently told Yahoo Lifestyle in an interview that the production chose to film in Singapore because of its futuristic yet beautiful settings.

Westworld is about human-like androids in an amusement park called “hosts”, who play out fantasy roles for customers seeking escapist experiences. The machines rebel against their creators after some of them gain consciousness.

The series, created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, has been lauded as a chilling meditation on the ramifications of artificial intelligence. Season one of the show aired in 2016, and season two aired last year.

The show starred Oscar-winning actor Anthony Hopkins as the park’s creator, Robert Ford. The two main android characters, Dolores and Maeve, are played by Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton. Other cast members include Hollywood stalwarts such as James Marsden, Tessa Thompson and Jeffrey Wright. Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) will join the cast in season three.

Singapore was recently also featured as a setting in the global film phenomenon that was Crazy Rich Asians, as well as a Detective Conan anime film, The Fist of Blue Sapphire.
