Singapore Tourism Awards 2019: 30 awards given out to celebrate achievements in tourism industry

SINGAPORE — On Thursday night (9 May) about 30 individuals and organisations were recognised for their achievements in the tourism industry at the Singapore Tourism Awards 2019. Held at The Ritz Carlton Millennia Singapore, the event was graced by Minister for Trade and Industry Mr Chan Chun Sing.

Organiser Singapore Tourism Board (STB) conferred the top award, Lifetime Achievement for Outstanding Contribution to Tourism, to Ms Violet Oon. Violet’s dedication to promoting and profiling Singapore’s unique food heritage and culture over many years has established her as Singapore’s doyenne of local heritage food, especially on Peranakan cuisine. Under her helm, Violet has opened a total of four restaurants: National Kitchen by Violet Oon at National Gallery Singapore, Violet Oon Singapore at Bukit Timah, Violet Oon Satay Bar & Grill at Clarke Quay and Violet Oon Singapore at ION Orchard.

Odette wins Restaurant of the Year honours at World Gourmet Awards

Another top award Breakthrough Contribution to Tourism, went to Genting Cruise Lines, having played an instrumental role in the development of Singapore as a global cruise hub.

Under the Special Recognition category, three awards were given to Chinatown Food Street by Select Group, Food & Hotel Asia by UBM Singapore and Mr Loh Lik Peng, for his role as the Chairman of the Singapore Hotel Association’s Hotel Innovation Committee.

Chef Julian Royer’s Odette Restaurant which won the top spot of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2019 awards in March as well as Restaurant of the Year at this year’s World Gourmet Awards, picked up Best Dining Experience.

Here are the remaining top 25 awardees, recognised for outstanding service delivery, across three award categories of Customer Service Excellence, Experience Excellence and Enterprise Excellence.
