Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate III review: 'My skin felt hydrated, bouncy and not tired'

My beauty journey with Shiseido only recently started this year, and I must admit, I've been looking at the wrong places! Shiseido happens to be one of the oldest beauty companies in the world, having celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2022. When I think of Shiseido, I think of it as a prestigious brand backed by years of research with a strong Asian heritage, business design and leadership.

In 2021, Shiseido conducted a joint research with the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) to find out the correlation between skin radiance and facial attractiveness. According to Shiseido, radiant skin is defined as, “gloss with a specular reflection of the skin surface and diffused reflection light from the inside.”

After a survey with over 160 female participants, Shiseido was able to deduce the correlation. According to Shiseido, radiant skin is optically defined as, “gloss with a specular reflection of the skin surface and diffused reflection light from the inside.” The participants were shown facial images using an image processing technique under various conditions – 'oily', 'shiny', 'gloss', 'radiant' – for impression evaluation.

The results revealed that participants shown a facial image with light reflection represented a 'radiant' face, and that gives off a positive and favourable impression to others.

Shiseido claims that the serum activates the skin’s inner defensive power to help prevent drying damage while constantly promoting the skin’s beauty circulation for healthy, vibrant skin. The serum has been upgraded with The Lifeblood and packaged with a dragon design to correlate with this year's Chinese horoscope. Bold!

I did some digging about what The Lifeblood is about: Shiseido's been researching the promotion of blood flow based on the latest research, not including exercise or diet. After a great run or yoga workout, or even a good, undisturbed night's sleep, we often feel great about ourselves, and it shows on our skin. According to Shiseido, the common thread between these instances is increased blood flow, and this improved circulation leads to more beautiful and healthy. Unfortunately, the enhanced circulation obtained through heat or massage is only temporary. Through scientific research, Shiseido claims that they have scientifically proven that better blood flow improves the texture of the skin and also revealed that caring for blood vessels carrying immune cells is essential for health.

The scent and texture of Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate III

Upon first impressions, the scent had a hint of rose, and was soothing on the skin. It's a pleasant fragrance that isn't overpowering and is comfortable. Shiseido says it contains ImuCalm Compound, a blend of roselle extract, heartleaf, lotus, and an unnamed green floral fragrance to promote relaxation.

The texture is light, dewy and feels hydrating. It feels like a smooth veil overlapping your skin to coat it with goodness.

How to apply the serum

After my cleansing routine, I use the serum daily, once in the morning and at night. Because I feel precious about it (and the price!), just three pumps were enough to spread all over my face. I use another pump of serum on my neck as well. Because I have normal/combination skin, I didn't feel like the texture was overpowering, and it was fully absorbed in about 10 minutes. Then I followed with a moisturiser, and in this case, Shiseido's Vital Perfection Uplifting And Firming Advanced Cream.

After a week of this simple three-week routine, I noticed my skin felt hydrated, bouncy, and not 'tired'. As we're constantly guilty of using too many products on our skin, I felt this routine was the right formula without aggravating my skin further.

In the second week of using the product, a PR person I met for the first time in person even shared that I had hydrated skin, much to my delight!

What the Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate III does

According to a questionnaire that Shiseido administered to 115 women, 84% of women felt that their skin was recharged in four weeks; 90% of women felt their skin was renewed in eight weeks; and 89% of women felt their skin became more vibrant in eight weeks.

With a price tag of S$125 for a 30ml bottle, it really doesn't come cheap. But I believe the product did wonders for my skin and so far I haven't had any major skin breakouts like acne or eczema and even redness (thank goodness!). For a formula that's designed for Asian skin in mind, this product will be on my beauty shelf for a long time.
