New-Season Trends? Emma Stone Has Completed Them

Emma Stone is on a roll, and we're not talking about the trophies she's continually taking home this awards season. You see, away from the red carpet and her run of Louis Vuitton gowns (she is a house ambassador after all), the 35-year-old actor is taking on new season trends with aplomb.

Nominated for the best actress award at next month's Oscars for her role as Bella Baxter in Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things, Stone has been busy in its run up promoting the film across the world as is required on such a campaign. And promo means outfits. And lots of them. What a treat for those of us that love Stone for her refreshingly simple yet still trend-led wardrobe.

From London to LA, Stone has used her jam-packed diary to try for size all of the pieces that are standing in the sartorial spotlight right now. Think an interesting play with colour and nostalgic details that remain feeling contemporary thanks to their outfit context.

Consider first her take on tailoring. Be it oversized or natty, Stone's tried it on. A screening in London saw Stone wear a gargantuan oversized coat that fell flush to the floor and long through the sleeve. Sure, it felt a little borrowed in its proportion but that was clearly its point to take an otherwise simple outfit to a place of elevation. She wore it with a £7,000 Tiffany necklace for a not-so-subtle reminder of her Hollywood heavyweight title.

Then, on the other hand, was her cropped Magda Butrym suit. It's jacket in contrast to the coat came fitted through the waist and its matching trousers observed the new vogue for capri pants. Try the trend now before it becomes spring's must-wear trouser shape.

Another outfit worthy of a closer look was Stone's decision to try a classic loafer in a standout shade. It's no secret that red is the colour du jour, but while many are wearing it in dresses, the actor wore it as a shoe. A Dorothy homage this is not, however. Stone's loafers, worn with a stone grey sweater and navy trousers, took on a masculine edge to stellar effect.

Amongst these outfits, one detail has been a constant as Stone has relied on the tactile appeal of a super-sheer, low denier tight. We're talking no more than 10 here surely. What proves most interesting here is that these looks aren't your usual tight-friendly Little Black Dress say, but instead alternatives that aren't obvious pairings. She's worn them with open-toe sandals and underneath her cropped trousers. This somewhat subversive styling trick is a must-emulate in being a cost-friendly way to upgrade your wardrobe right now.
