Revamped Serangoon kopitiam returns with 13 stalls offering KL hotplate curry noodle & nasi lemak

Sometimes, a makeover is all that’s needed to spruce up and breathe new life to a place. Having been in operation for over a decade, (Yu Xiang) kopitiam at 237 Serangoon Ave 3 has just reopened on 25 Sep 2024, after a 3-week renovation.

The coffee shop houses a total of 13 tenants, including the quintessential drinks stall. I know, I know! Nearby residents around Serangoon Central will probably find most of the stalls familiar, as many have been around for some time. For the benefit of others, here’s a brief reintroduction to some of them.

My friend who lives nearby heaved a sigh of relief when she found out that Chang Cheng Hokkien Mee is still around. She is a regular customer of this stall and orders the Fried Prawn Noodle (S$6/S$8/S$10), cooked by a friendly and gung-ho aunty and uncle.

Located right next door is Siew Lian Ban Mian • Bee Hoon • Porridge, offering — yes, you guessed it — the dishes in the stall’s name. Try the Economic Bee Hoon (min. S$1.50) and slurp on piping-hot bowls of Prawn U-Mian (S$5.50), Mee Hoon Kueh (S$4.50) and Century Egg Minced Meat Porridge (S$4).

Die-hard noodle fans can swing by Soon Huat to get their hands on Lor Mee (S$5/S$6/S$7), Big Prawn Noodle (S$8/S$10/S$12) or indulge in the luxurious Abalone Pork Ribs Prawn Noodle (S$10/S$11/S$12).
