Rene Liu pushes on with performance despite mourning

26 Aug – Rene Liu has confirmed speculations that she has recently lost her 92-year-old father.

As reported on Epoch Times, the singer set tongues wagging about a possible death in the family earlier during her performance at the "Super Slippa" event in Taipei, when she choked up several times and repeated her performance to ensure that it went as it should.

Halfway through the performance, Rene shared to fans, "My father was a captain. I liked to act cute with him, and he loved it when I do so. I think in everyone's heart, there will be that one person where you can [just be yourself]."

"It rained heavily outside today. I hope he can hear it," she added.

Speaking to the media following the performance, Rene said that her father Liu Weiwen passed away on 17 August at the age of 92. She originally wanted to postpone her promotional activities, but decided to perform so as to not disappoint fans.

As she didn't want the audience to feel saddened by the information, Rene admitted that she only let a few staff members know about it.
