The Queen has attended a special poetry recital event and tea party for grandparents and grandchildren.

Queen Camilla arrived at Fielding Primary School in London for the Poetry Together recital which "encourages children and the elderly to learn a poem by heart together, before sitting down to a cup of tea and slice of cake," according to a post on the official Royal Family's social media accounts.

The initiative was launched by The Queen's long-time friend Gyles Brandreth and he was present with Her Majesty to hear some of the recitals and join in the tea party.

The Queen brought along a special Victoria Sponge cake which had been baked at Buckingham Palace, and character actors playing Alice and the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland arrived to present the cake.

According to the Royal Family, "Over 800 care homes and schools from around the UK have participated since its inception, and last year, schools in Greece, Romania, the UAE, Nigeria and the USA took part."

Photographs from the event show Queen Camilla and Gyles enjoying the performances, as well as joining contestants on stage and helping slice the sponge alongside Alice and Mad Hatter.

For the occasion, the Queen opted for a vibrant peacock print midi dress with a shirt collar and tie-waist. The piece is the perfect transitional wardrobe staple and, if you're looking for one of your own, take a look at some of our favourite midi shirt dresses from across the high street:
