Puff Kuo explains blunder at Asia-Pacific Film Festival

7 Sep – Taiwanese actress Puff Kuo recently became the butt of jokes among netizens for hesitating on announcing the winner of the Best Visual Effects at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival.

As reported on Phoenix, the actress who served as a presenter at the prestigious event alongside Yen Cheng-kuo, was seen looking at the result in her hand for several seconds before pushing the card to Yan. The two proceeded to push the envelope between each other before finally announcing the winner, sparking speculations among netizens that Puff could not read in English.

Explaining herself at a Chinese variety show recently, Puff said that the situation was caused by her own nervousness, coupled by some confusion about the placement of the words on the envelope.

"I thought that when you open the envelope, it will have the category, and the name of the winning movie. But the name was at the bottom, and for a while, I didn't see it," she said.

Puff said that she then asked for help from Yen, but that he only told her that the audiences are waiting for her to announce it.

"I thought, "Oh my God, I am dead!" But then I looked at the envelope again from the top, and only realised that the movie title was in the last line. I quickly announced it," she said.

Puff also took to Weibo to make fun of herself, saying that her nerves has made people laugh, and that she will work harder in the future.

The 58th Asia-Pacific Film Festival Best Visual Effect award was won by Malaysian fantasy-noir thriller, "Interchange".
