Since marrying into the royal family back in 2011, Catherine, Princess of Wales, has worn tiaras on only a handful of occasions, saving the precious headpieces for big events. If an occasion calls for a tiara, she will often choose to wear the Lover’s Knot Tiara, an elegant diamond-encrusted piece with hanging pearl adornments. Kate reunited with the shimmering headpiece, to attend the annual Diplomatic Corps reception at Buckingham Palace.

She arrived at the reception alongside her husband Prince William and in-laws King Charles III and Queen Camilla. To accompany the Lover’s Knot Tiara, Kate wore a glittering long-sleeved Jenny Packham evening gown covered in blush-pink sequins and accented by silver crystal embellishments at the collar, torso, and waist. She styled her gown with a matching Prada clutch bag, Gianvito Rossi shimmering heels and the Greville Diamond Chandelier earrings, which Queen Elizabeth II wore regularly in the 1950s and 1960s.

The Lover’s Knot Tiara – also a favourite of Princess Diana’s – was originally commissioned by Queen Mary in the early 20th century to replicate the design of the 200-year-old Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara, which was owned by her grandmother, Princess Augusta of Hesse-Kassel.

Kate last wore this tiara in November 2022 to attend a Buckingham Palace reception for President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa. At the time, she styled the piece with a sophisticated white cape dress with gold embroidery by one of her favourite labels Jenny Packham.

Kate tested out another tiara from the royal archives just last month at a banquet for President Yoon Suk Yeol of the Republic of Korea. Then, she eschewed her typical Lover’s Knot for the Strathmore Rose Tiara, a floral diadem that had not been publicly seen since the Queen Mother wore it in the 1930s.
