Popular cafe, Forty Hands, to close down both Tiong Bahru and East Coast outlets after almost 12 years

Forty Hands, a popular cafe with outlets at Tiong Bahru and East Coast, will be closing down on 12 Sep 2022. This news comes after almost twelve years of operation, ever since they first opened in Oct 2010.

In a Facebook post on 6 Sep 2022, Forty Hands announced their closure whilst thanking the support they had received over the past decade.

“We’ve had the privilege of building countless friendships with many who have walked through our doors, becoming a warm welcome from your second home,” wrote the cafe.

Forty Hands was founded by Australian Harry Grover who brought his knowledge of Australia’s cafe culture into the Singapore market. The cafe prides themselves on their specialty coffee brews, which are made from a curated selection of unique house blends and single origins.

It’s not all bad news, as you can still get your caffeine fix from its sister brand, Common Man Coffee Roasters. It has two outlets at Joo Chiat and Martin Road.

Common Man Coffee Roasters continues its campaign of providing only the purest form of product by using chemical and additives free specialty teas.

It also takes a level above by providing patrons with an assortment of coffee-related classes such coffee knowledge and AeroPress workshops.

As sad as it may be for Forty Hands to close down, its Facebook post ended with the following cryptic sentence: “…if the future is made of the same stuff as the present, you may just find our next big brew shining in the distance”. Who knows, perhaps it might not be a farewell after all!
