Paddington Bear is the star of Barbour's Christmas advert
For Christmas 2022, Barbour has collaborated with the much-loved bear, Paddington, for its advert.
The Peruvian bear, who is kind-hearted and full of love, has been a firm favourite of children and families since ‘A Bear Called Paddington’, by Michael Bond, was published in 1958.
The Barbour film includes the original Peggy Fortnum illustration style, who illustrated the original books, a style that has only ever been animated by Barbour.
There won’t be a dry eye in the house, as Barbour’s festive film follows Paddington on one of his adventures, always with good intentions, ending up slightly pear-shaped. Paddington comes up with an idea for a special and unique gift for his neighbour, Mr Curry, after tripping the street’s Christmas lights out. Mr Curry is known for being a bit grumpy, but the film shows how a special gift and showing people they are loved, will always warm hearts.
Paddington adds a note to Mr Curry’s special gift, letting him know "this jacket is one of a kind, just like you,"
As part of Barbour’s Wax for Life initiative to extend the life of their pieces, the film touches on Barbour Re-Loved, an important circularity sustainability initiative. Barbour Re-Loved enables customers who no longer have a use for their Barbour wax jacket to hand it back in return for a voucher. Barbour cleans, re-waxes and repairs the jacket ready for it to be ‘re-loved’ in a new home, thus extending the life of the jacket.
The gorgeous and heart-warming film took over 3000 hours - with every frame of the animation being hand drawn and painted.
To support the campaign, Barbour is launching a limited-edition Barbour x Paddington Re-Loved jacket with a unique lining taken from an image in this year’s ad. Every jacket is upcycled, and one of a kind. Both men’s and women’s classic wax jackets, the Bedale and Beadnell will be available with a special Paddington lining, and are available to shop from 1 December.
