"No More Bets" beats "Barbie" as the biggest weekend performance

17 Aug – If you think that "Barbie" has been dominating the box office last weekend, you are dead wrong, as it turns out, it was a mainland movie that performed the most.

"No More Bets", a movie about cyber frauds directed by Shen Ao, was revealed to have made USD 88 million from 11 to 13 August in China alone, which is ten million bucks more than what the Margot Robbie-starrer made in its fourth weekend.

Starring Lay Zhang, Gina Jin, Eric Wang and Yong Mei among others, the movie tells the story of two people; a programmer and a model, who find themselves scammed into working in a factory after responding to an overseas recruitment ad.

The film, which has been released for more than a week now, has also made over RMB 2 billion, which is equivalent to USD 274 million.

Maoyan predicted that the film will earn up to USD 510 million at the box office.
