"Ne Zha 2" is the big Chinese New Year winner in China

4 Feb - It looks like the animated feature, "Ne Zha 2" has become the big winner at the Chinese New Year box office in China, after reaching RMB 3.12 billion (approx. USD 430.3 million) at the Chinese box office during the festive period up to Sunday (2 February).

The direct sequel of the 2019 animated fantasy adventure, which is helmed by Yu Yang, has also generated nearly RMB 160 million on IMAX, making it the fastest IMAX release to surpass RMB 100 million.

It is now the highest-grossing film of 2025 to-date.

The film is also the third film in the Fengshen franchise following 2020's "Jiang Ziya".

Meanwhile, the second place goes to "Detective Chinatown 1900", the fourth instalment of the comedy mystery starring Wang Baoqiang and Liu Haoran. It earned RMB 1.82 billion during the same period.

It is noted that "Detective Chinatown 1900" also surpassed RM1 million at the Malaysian box office in just three days.
