"Merlin Saga" may have conjured up a director

Currently the director chosen is in talks for possibly two Merlin projects for Disney

"The Merlin Saga" is one of the movies involving the wizard that Disney is working on.

6 Jan – There's been plenty of movies focused on King Arthur but not so much on his mentor, the wizard Merlin.

Disney is fixing that by giving the magical character his own movie, aptly named "The Merlin Saga", and it may have recently conjured up a director.

Ridley Scott, helmer of movies such as "The Martian" and "Alien: Covenant", is said to be in talks to direct the Merlin-focused movie, Variety reports.

Based on his past movies, it may be assumed that Scott's "Merlin" might not be a feel-good musical number but possibly an edgier take on the tale.

The movie will be based on T.A. Barron books that tell the origin story of the wizard.

Philippa Boyens, whose experience in fantasy scripting includes "The Lord of the Rings" series and "The Hobbit", will be penning the script.

Scott will be producing under his Scott Free banner along with "Life of Pi" producer Gil Netter.

"The Merlin Saga" might not be Scott's only Merlin-based project for Disney as the director is reportedly also in discussion to helm the studio's live-action "Sword in the Stone".
