27 Oct - Lam Chi Chung has denied that his new movie, which is literally translated as "Joke Soccer", is anything like Stephen Chow's "Shaolin Soccer" – a movie that he co-starred in alongside the comedy auteur back in 2001.
As reported on Mingpao News, the actor-turned-director, who promoted the movie alongside lead actor Louis Cheung recently, stated that the only similarity between Stephen's movie and his would be the title, but even that was not intentional.
"It wasn't our decision. The distributor said that they won't release it without this title. When we were filming it, it was called "Victory 11"," said Lam.
When asked if he has any concern that audiences would compare it to "Shaolin Soccer", Lam sighed and said that there is nothing he can do about it.
"But I believe they won't be disappointed since the film is very realistic, only that it is told in the form of comedy," he said.
