Kylie Padilla shares birthing experience

The actress had to cancel plans for a water birth after four days of labour struggles

15 Aug - Actress Kylie Padilla recently shared the struggle she went through in giving birth to her first son, Alas Joaquin Abrenica.

The actress, who gave birth to her and fiancé Aljur Abrenica's son on 4 August, shared that she originally opted for a water birth and had prepared herself physically and mentally through the help of her doula, Irina.

She wrote, "Early [labour] started slow for me, which is normal. Mine lasted [two] days. Getting little sleep at night but I was excited that soon I would finally see my baby boy! So I was already running up and down stairs to get him in position."

However, Padilla soon realised that things don't always go with the plan, when her baby's head wouldn't come down during contractions.

"Active [labour] lasted [one] and a half days. I walked [six hours or two hours] in interval, experimented with different positions to get the baby down and widen my cervix. But it had gotten to a point that I had only dilated [one centimetre] in one day. By the fourth day I was exhausted and feeling a little let down by my body," Padilla shared.

The actress stated that after spending hours and days in the same situation, she finally decided to move on to the next best thing - a medicated birth.

"After everything I'm still happy with my birthing story. My baby is healthy. Although it was a medicated birth, I'm thankful I still experienced all the natural hormones I did through those [four] transformative days. I learned more about myself and still got to enjoy a few moments in the tub with my partner. I want to thank everybody who was there for me through those [four] days. It wouldn't have been bearable without you. Thank you," wrote Padilla.
